Enabling Full Desktop Mode in Asus Eee PC

From Download Squad, a tutorial by Brad Linder on enabling the Full Desktop Mode in your Asus Eee PC -

When the Asus Eee PC was first announced, the demos included a Full Desktop mode similar to a Linux with KDE installed. But the production units are shipped with the Easy mode installed and no clear instructions to enable the Full Desktop mode.

As it turns out, there is a straightforward way. Check-out Brad's fine tutorial. You can even set it to permanently boot into Full Desktop mode every time, just select the Settings tab in Easy Mode, click on Personalization, and then select the check box next to Full Desktop Mode which should look something like this:

Full Desktop

Hi,

I tried the instructions and all I get is an error message at the end of the installation of the Ksmserver kicker. this is what I do:

sudo su

apt-get update

apt-get install ksmserver kicker

In the end I get an error which I don't recall well but it is something to do with the dependencies and then I get a whole load of broken packages. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi luis,

I tried replicating the steps and each time the packages were downloaded properly. Could it be they were not downloaded properly?

HI luis,

I think my previous comment is quite clear. What I meant was when I tried replicating the steps, the packages installed properly.

My hunch is that in your case, they might not have downloaded properly.

Hope this helps.

If not you can try an alternative method at http://wiki.eeeuser.com/howto:getkde?s=full%20desktop%20mode

Hope this helps.
