To me it looks like a hoax....
It IS a hoax. A.) Cat5 cable is purposely designed NOT to receive RF. B.) The "scientific" explanation is a farce. C.) On the off chance that it's true (Mark's pretty convincing), I tried it, and it does not, in fact, work.
My viewable networks increased from 2 to 16. I can't explain it. I'd like more time to play around. Cat5 is designed to minimize interference if used correctly, but in this case one end is left open; basically, and ant. Right? Induction and Carrier wave applications are scientific but I can't explain how it applies here. Someone with a couple of EE behind their name needs to chime in.
Yep it MAY work....
I dunno about cat5 or a mobile phone... But if u have external antenna - u can make a "cantenna" for it (check google).. It increases range, signal quality.. some cantenna's provedi directed, focused signal.. so it doesn't spread around - it gets focused in a ray... Everything depends on build, but some of the cantenna's can increase range up to 1 km.. Built myself a 500 meters range cantenna..
